We Call Police (Tour de Akron)

Here’s another old one. This was originally created back in the summer of 2002, when I was just getting into digital video production. Can you tell? My friend and I cruised around downtown Akron on a sweltering Sunday afternoon, capturing raw footage. Back at the studio, we threw it down to an Emperor Penguin track “Neighborhood Watch (We Call Police)”, using the chroma key (and just about every other) effect, extensively. Why post an old video? Well, I just bought a new iPod Classic, which allowed me to load-up every album I could dream of listening to, and this track came-up this morning. It’s really hot up in this studio right now, too. Regardless, after watching it again, it’s one of my favorites. That’s Akron, Ohio, in all it’s glory!

I had recently read in the news about someone suing McDonald's because their food had made them fat, or something along those lines. So, I got it in my mind to make a video that showed people buying food at fast food restaurant drive-thru windows. Great idea, right? I got my friend to drive around as I shot footage, but nothing really worked. However, I did get a lot of footage of downtown Akron, so I assembled some of it along with some hastily rendered chroma key shots of my friend and I pretending to be the king of Akron as it passed behind us, ending with some psychedelic footage along the same lines."
